Cash Flow For The Cash Poor

CASH FLOW FOR THE CASH POOR

by

Jack Fedrock

Sam has a problem a good problem, perhaps, but a problem just the same. He has been contacted by a well known company that would like to place a large order with Sams company. This is the type of order that he dreams about, with the potential to double his profits from the prior year. Yes, he will be raking in the cash soon.

There are just a couple of not-so-small issues. He needs to order the materials to create the products and then needs to hire more employees to put the products together, box them up, and ship them out. He doesnt have enough cash to do everything, and his bank certainly wont loan him the money. Since most of his employees live paycheck to paycheck, he cant delay paying them. If Sam has enough cash to buy the materials but not meet an elevated payroll level, he can solve the problem with Factoring

. With factoring, which is also known as accounts receivable financing or invoice factoring, Sam can easily make payroll.

Instead of having to wait for his wonderful, new customer to pay him in 30-45 days, factoring puts cash in Sams pocket right away. For instance, if Sam is billing out $100K, the factoring company will typically advance him $80K of that amount within 24 hours of him sending out his invoice. He receives the other $20K, minus the small fee for factoring services, when the new customer actually pays his bill. Sam can continue with the factoring as long as he needs. Because this is not a loan, he does not have to pay anything back. So, factoring is simply accounts receivable financing that allows a business to address short-term cash flow issues. There are several forms of factoring, but the most common are business factoring (for commercial working capital finance) and medical factoring (for clinics, durable equipment manufacturers, etc. who bill insurance companies or government agencies like MediCare and Medicaid). Invoice factoring has been around for centuries, though it is not as well known as some other forms of financing in the U.S. Alan Noblitt is the owner of Seascape Capital Inc and a commercial finance consultant who helps small and medium size businesses with business factoring, medical receivables factoring, and purchase order financing. Oakland, California record release party catches fire

Sunday, December 4, 2016

A fire broke out at a record release party in Oakland, California late on Friday night. Nine were confirmed dead the following morning with the death toll rising to 24 the next day.

The warehouse, known as Ghost Ship, was hosting a party for the release of the newest album by Joel “Golden Donna” Shanahan. It is in Oakland’s Fruitvale neighborhood, a mix of commercial and residential buildings nestled together. The structure is one block away from Fire Station No. 13 and at least 55 firefighters spent four hours containing and stopping the fire which began at approximately 11:30 p.m.

Firefighters and police cordoned off the block to spectators. The two-story, mixed-use structure also housed the artist collective Satya Yuga who hosted the show and is being searched by firefighters. Out of approximately 50 attendees, at least 25 were declared missing. Shanahan was among the survivors.

Efforts to rescue partygoers were compounded by the roof caving in during the inferno as well as the stacks of furniture, art pieces, and supplies which turned into obstacles for first responders.

Oakland mayor Libby Schaaf:

Quote

Last night’s fire was an immense tragedy. I am grateful to our first responders for their efforts to deal with this deadly fire. Our focus right now is on the victims and their families and ensuring that we have a full accounting for everyone who was impacted by this tragedy. We are fully committed to sharing as much information as we can as quickly as possible.

The structure is owned by Chor N. Ng, who is also the proprietor of several other buildings in the East Bay. On November 13 Ng was cited by the city for having stacks of garbage in and around the warehouse. Most fatalities were reported to have occurred in the upstairs portion of the building where escape was hampered by unstable stairs and miscellaneous art pieces lying in the way. The building lacked any smoke detectors and sprinklers; fire extinguishers were found outside of the premises.

Muhammad was convicted for one of ten murders occurring between Oct. 9 and 22, 2002 in and around Washington, DC. Dean Harold Meyers was shot on the Oct. 9 by Muhammad. Lawyers for Muhammad appealed for a not plea on the reasons of him being mentality ill but the appeal was rejected. Muhammad was 48 at the time of execution.

Eurozone initiative to challenge US internet technology dominance

Wednesday, January 18, 2006

Quaero is being termed eurozone’s response to the US-based internet search giants such as Google, Yahoo and MSN. The project includes the French and German governments along with a host of European technology companies such as Thomson, France Telecom and Deutsche Telekom. It is scheduled to be submitted to France’s Agency of Industrial Innovation later this month. The agency which has a budget of €2 billion ($2.41 billion) hasn’t specified how much of this money will be spent on Quaero.

President Jacques Chirac announced the launch of Quaero during the French-German ministerial conference in April of last year. It is the latest in a series of initiatives by the Europeans to compete with US dominance in technology. Europe launched the Galileo satellite navigation system last month aimed at rivaling a similar system already available in the US. French broadcasters are also planning an international television network, CFII aimed at presenting the French view on world events. The network is slated to begin broadcasting in French and English to Europe, the Middle East and Africa sometime next year.

Designers hope that Quaero will be the world’s most advanced multimedia search engine to locate and translate video and audio over the internet. A pretty ambitious goal even by the admission of people involved “Yes, it’s highly ambitious,” said Jean-Luc Moullet, who oversees the Quaero project at Thomson. “There’s nothing to compare it to.”

However details remain scant and mostly shrouded in secrecy. None of the key players has commented on cost and last week, Thomson, removed access to the page on its corporate web site devoted to Quaero and instructed its executives not to give any interviews for the project.

Most industry experts remain skeptical and fear that the program would be costly and unwieldy to administer and would produce no tangible commercial advances. “I’m not too confident that Quaero will be able to produce anything that the private sector isn’t already offering or will develop on its own in the future,” said John Lervik, chief executive of Fast Search & Transfer, a Norwegian software company that provides search solutions to businesses for data stored on their corporate networks.

Microsoft to track legal marijuana with new partner Kind Financial

Sunday, June 19, 2016

Microsoft announced on Thursday they are partnering with KIND Financial to help governments track the production and distribution of legal marijuana. Kind Financial, a California-based start-up company, began selling its Agrisoft Seed to Sale software three years ago. Microsoft is admitting Kind’s software on the Government portion of its Azure cloud service.

Although Kind Financial CEO David Dinenberg stressed to The Guardian they “absolutely do not touch the plant”, his company does business with growers and distributors of marijuana, as well as the governments that regulate it. State law in twenty-five US states — but not US federal law — has legalized marijuana, whether medicinally or for recreational use. Kimberly Nelson, Microsoft executive director of state and local government solutions, said they expect significant demand for technology to help states make sure cannabis distribution within their state is done according to their laws.

Kind also provides kiosks similar to automated tellers (ATMs) to facilitate marijuana transactions in dispensaries. The distribution of marijuana is often done only with cash or through machines like the ones Kind offers since many banks in the United States shy away from the marijuana industry entirely. Microsoft is not interacting with this part of Kind’s operations, however.

Microsoft and Kind will apply for contracts with state governments for their software. Currently, they have applied to Puerto Rico, a US territory, where medical marijuana has recently been made legal. BioTrackTHC, a company similar to Kind Financial, already has contracts with Washington, New Mexico, and Illinois.

Dinenberg said his company’s partnership with Microsoft is a major step in advancing the legitimacy of cannabis-related businesses.

Wikinews interviews Jeremy Hanke, editor of MicroFilmmaker Magazine

Friday, April 11, 2008

Wikinews held an exclusive interview with Jeremy Hanke, editor of MicroFilmmaker Magazine. The magazine, which is free to read online, was started as a resource for the low budget moviemaker and features book, independent film, equipment and software reviews as well as articles on film distribution, special effects and lighting.

He says that one of the goals of the magazine is to “connect low-budget filmmakers via a feeling of community, as many…..often compete so viciously against one another in film festivals for coveted “shots” with Hollywood, that they can quickly forget their similarities.”

When asked if films made on a shoestring budget can really compete with those made for millions of dollars, he replied, “no…yes…and absolutely. Allow me to explain.” And so he does in the interview below.

Dissecting An Air Conditioner

Submitted by: Barney Garcia

An air conditioner is a device, which is used to cool the air. People extensively use it across the world. However, there are certain things that you should look for when purchasing, installing and using an air conditioner.

The Main Parts of an Air Conditioner

The compressor, the condenser and the evaporator are the three main parts of an air conditioner. Besides these, an air conditioner also has a hot coil and a cool coil on the out side and inside respectively. It has two fans and a control circuit to modify the temperature. However, the most important one of the lot is the compressor.

The Compressor: This part can function for many years. If your air conditioner is old and the compressor has a fault, it can be replaced with a new one as well. Since the compressor is the part, which releases the cool gas, it is the most important part of an air conditioner. Most of the companies purchase a compressor from an external source and install it into their air conditioners.

It is recommended that you buy an air conditioner from a company that makes its own compressors. Companies also give warranties on compressors.

The Condenser: This is where the liquid is converted back into gas again. It is a very important part of an air conditioner unit. It can be replaced if it develops faults.

The coils can also be replaced easily. If a coil develops a fault, you may not get satisfying cooling results. Hence, it is recommended that you service your air conditioner regularly so that all the parts last longer.

The external cover can be selected according to the colors and shades of your choice. It has no function except for providing a general appeal to the air conditioner.

Usage Parameters

During summers, we tend to reduce the temperature below 20 whereas the temperature outside is above 30. This is bad for your health and if you step out of the room after a long time, you can easily catch a cold. Also, drink lots of fluids as your body gets dehydrated if you are in the Air Conditioner for a long time.

Iranian International Master Dorsa Derakhshani discusses her chess career with Wikinews

Tuesday, April 14, 2020

In February 2017, the Iranian Chess Federation announced two teenage chess players, Dorsa Derakhshani and her younger brother Borna Derakhshani, were banned from representing the national team. The federation announced their decision although Dorsa Derakhshani had previously decided and informed the chess federation she did not wish to play for Iran.

Dorsa Derakhshani is currently 21 years old and holds the International Master (IM) as well as Woman Grand Master (WGM) titles. Her brother, Borna, plays for the English Federation and holds the FIDE Master title.

Dorsa Derakhshani was banned since she did not wear a hijab, an Islamic headscarf, while competing at the Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival in January 2017. Under the laws of Islamic Republic of Iran, hijab is a mandatory dress code. Her brother Borna Deraskhsani was banned for playing against Israeli Grand Master (GM) Alexander Huzman at the same tournament. Iran does not recognise the existence of Israel, and previously, Irani athletes have avoided playing against Israeli athletes.

Mehrdad Pahlavanzadeh, the president of the country’s chess federation, explained the decision to ban the players saying, “As a first step, these two will be denied entry to all tournaments taking place in Iran and in the name of Iran, they will no longer be allowed the opportunity to be present on the national team.” ((fa))Farsi language: ?????? ????? ?? ??? ??? ?? ??? ????? ?? ?? ???? ???????? ?? ?? ????? ? ?? ??? ????? ?????? ??????? ????? ??????? ? ???? ???? ???? ?? ??? ??? ?? ??????? ????. IM Dorsa Derakhshani, who currently studies at Saint Louis University in the United States and plays for the United States Chess Federation, discussed her chess career, time in Iran and the 2017 controversy, and her life in Saint Louis with a Wikinews correspondent.
